If you read this blog with any regularity, and have picked up the hints I've been dropping, you'll know that something new was coming.

This, finally, is that something.

In a Captain Planet style partnership between myself and RAQA wizard Ali Hidari, we've launched Titan Medical.

What is Titan Medical?

Titan Medical is a medical device design and development company, offering full end-to-end medical device development, from concept through to market.

While both Ali and I have significant experience in orthopaedics, we also have a lot of experience in the design and commercialisation in a diverse range of active and passive medical devices. Titan Medical works to bring all kinds of medical devices to market, with a specialisation in orthopaedics.

Ali and I have worked together in the past, and have collaborated on projects since. In doing so we found a gap in the Australian design and development market, especially when it came to pre-clinical testing. We started Titan Medical to fill that gap.

There's a rising demand to develop home-grown medical devices. This is both a top-down (ie. government) initiative, but also a growing desire from the bottom-up (users). Titan Medical intends to step up and meet that demand. We're excited to take a collaborative approach with the industry at large to contribute our skills, services, and expertise. Together empowering Australian clinical innovators to get their products to market (locally or abroad) quickly and pragmatically.

A rising tide lifts all boats.

But as the name implies, Titan Medical will be bigger than design and regulatory services. While helping companies launch successful products is our primary objective, we'll also be putting our own money where our mouth is.

What Will Happen to Lincoln Black?

If you're reading this, I guess that's the big question isn't it? In the short-term nothing will change. I will continue to work with passionate startups to realise their visions. I've said it many times but I live and breathe design. I love solving hard problems, especially ones that provide net benefit to society and those most at risk. Working with startups in the early phases of development allows the work I do to have maximum impact.

Longer term, the work I do in orthopaedics will transition to Titan Medical. This will provide greater clarity of my (and our) offerings across the medical device space.

In some respects this change is a further niching down of the work I already do. I'm not sure there's any Industrial Design consultancies in Australia that only work on medical devices. Sharpening that focus further onto medtech is a laser point on the very specific thing that gives me the most satisfaction and provides the most value to clients.

I'm very excited. It's both further clarity and commitment on what I do here, as well as seeing the potential in Titan Medical.

There's a big future ahead.
